It’s no secret that Taylor Swift is one of the most popular musicians in the world. Her last album, “Evermore,” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and has since been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. So, it should come as no surprise that fans are clamoring for tickets to her upcoming “Eras” concert tour. What is surprising, however, is that the public ticket sale for the tour was canceled due to overwhelming demand.
According to a report from Variety, tickets for Swift’s Eras concert, which is scheduled to kick off March 23 in Glendale, Arizona, were set to go on sale to the general public on November 18 at 10 a.m. PT. However, the Verified Fan pre-sale that took place on November 15 caused an unprecedented amount of traffic on Ticketmaster’s website, and the ticket sale was canceled less than an hour after it started. As a result, the general public sale that was set for November 18, was also canceled. It is still unclear if the general ticket sale will be rescheduled and resumed.
Ticketmaster later released a statement apologizing for the cancellation and explaining why their website was crashed. It was a record-breaking day for Ticketmaster’s ticket sales as over two million Taylor Swift tickets were sold on November 15th, which is the highest number of tickets sold for an artist in a single day.
This isn’t the first time that Ticketmaster has had to cancel a public ticket sale for one of Swift’s concerts due to overwhelming demand. It happened before and at the time, Ticketmaster attributed the cancellation to a “glitch” in its system. However, given the fact that this is now the second time this has happened, it seems more likely that there is simply too much demand for Swift’s concert tickets.
No matter how you slice it, this is a pretty impressive feat for Swift. Not only are her concerts selling out in record time, but she’s also managed to do what very few artists have been able to do in recent years: get millions of people to buy tickets in matter of minutes. Granted, some of these tickets are probably being bought by scalpers who will turn around and sell them for significantly higher prices. But even so, the fact that there is such high demand for Swift’s concert tickets is a testament to her popularity as an artist.
